We specialise in helping businesses involved in clean and green technologies to obtain
commercially useful patents for their inventions. We have helped many businesses
to protect ideas relating to inventions including: inverter systems that facilitate
the use of feed-in electricity tariffs; wind turbine and solar PV systems; energy
storage systems; highly-insulated building blocks and roof panels; sustainable buildings;
high U-value glazing systems; domestic heating; recycling of waste material; high-efficiency
internal combustion engines, to name but a few. Our technical expertise in this
area and our deep understanding of the underlying mechanics, physics and materials
engineering is what makes us so well-placed to assist in obtaining patents and other
IP rights in this rapidly growing sector.
The UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO, or Patent Office) operates a “Green Channel”
scheme that allows patent applications relating to green technology to be fast tracked
through the search and examination procedure. Using this facility, we have helped
several businesses to obtain granted UK patents in less than a year from filing,
which has helped them to secure external investment and to have greater confidence
in expanding the geographical coverage of their IP portfolios.
The use of the Green Channel scheme can be advantageous also if you are planning
to file overseas because a favourable, or partially favourable, examination report
from the UKIPO can be used to fast-track corresponding overseas patent applications
in certain other countries (notably the US and Japan) using bilateral agreements
known as the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH).
